Social Login

What is social login?

Social login is a form of single sign-on that uses existing login information from a social-networking service such as Facebook, Google or Twitter to sign in to a third-party website (in this case, Hubsplit .com) instead of creating a new login account specifically for that website. It is designed to simplify logins.

Why does Hubsplit  offer social login?

Although you always have the option to create a unique account for Hubsplit , social login makes it easier to login and register. When you choose to use social login, you will link your account on our website with a third-party social-networking site such as Facebook, Google or Twitter.

These social-networking sites verify your identity, allow you to log in (and register) to Hubsplit  and share personal information you allow us to collect.

Your email address from your social-networking account will be used to verify whether you have an existing account on Hubsplit . If there is no matching email address, a new Hubsplit  account will be created using the email address collected from your social-networking account. If the email address from your social-networking account matches an existing email address on Hubsplit , your existing Hubsplit  account will be connected to that social-networking account.

Once you have linked your social-networking account to your Hubsplit  account, you will automatically be logged in on our site if you are logged in on the linked social-networking site. However, if you log out of Hubsplit , you will remain logged out until you log in again on a subsequent visit.

You don’t have to use social login. We offer registration that uses your email address instead and is not linked with an existing social-networking account.

Kids are valuable community members on our site. We don’t allow social login for kids under 18.

What information do the social-networking sites collect or use?

Third-party social-networking sites gather information when you visit Hubsplit , so they can personalize your experience on their sites, and they might target ads based on the information they collect about your use on our site. Social-networking sites also may notify your connections about your use of our site. Thus, even though we won’t post information about you on your social network, it is possible that Facebook, Google or Twitter will.

Do you post information about me on my social network?

No. We will not share any information about you or your activities collected by Hubsplit .com with a linked social-networking service without your approval. This means we will not post anything to your Facebook wall, Google account, or Twitter feed unless you give us permission to do so, and we will not contact your friends or followers at any time.

What information does Hubsplit  collect when I use social login?

When you choose social login, you will be presented with an authorization screen asking your permission for us to collect certain information from your existing social-networking account. If you confirm, we will collect your email address, first name, last name, gender, birth date (month and year), region (city, state, country, ZIP code), and photo.

We do not store or utilize the names of your friends or followers even if they are given to us by a social-login service in the initial registration process.

You can control what data you would like to make public and share through the privacy controls and settings on some third-party social-networking sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies and terms of use on these third-party social-networking sites and to explore how to customize your privacy settings.

Can I edit or delete information on my Hubsplit .com account that’s been collected from a social-networking site?

Yes, you can edit or delete any information collected from a social-networking account that appears on your Hubsplit  profile and account pages. We will not repopulate any deleted data during subsequent logins on the social-networking account. If you connect to an additional social-networking account, we will only populate empty fields, which you can edit or delete, and we will not repopulate those fields during any subsequent logins on that newly connected social-networking account. If you delete any data, we will not use that information for any purposes on our website, nor will it be available to anyone through us; however, that data may remain in our system, such as in backups of our website data.

How does Hubsplit  use the data it collects when I use social login?

We will use the information we are allowed to collect from your social-networking sites to pre-populate some data fields on your account and profile pages. For example, we will pre populate your first and last names on your profile page. In addition:

  • Your email address will be used to send you newsletters and other communications if you opt in for them. We will never publicly display your email address on our site.
  • Your name (first name and the first initial of your last name) and photo will be displayed on your public profile page and next to any reviews or comments you post on our site.
  • You have the option not to display your name on our site. We will instead display your username, which can be anonymous.
  • You also have the option not to publicly display your profile picture. We will instead display an image of a user’s silhouette.
  • Your gender, birth date, and location information will not be publicly displayed on our site but may be used for aggregate demographic reporting so we can better understand our users and improve the user experience on our site.
  • We may also use your gender, birth date, or location information to send you targeted newsletters and communications and to display certain content based on what other users similar to you like on our site.

Can I link an existing Hubsplit  account with a social-networking account if the email address on the social-networking account is different?

Yes. Log in to the site, visit your account page, go to the “My Account” tab, and click the button for the social-networking account you would like to connect to. From that page, you can connect to the social-networking account even if your email address on that account is different from the email address on Hubsplit . The email address on your Hubsplit  account will remain the same.

Can I unlink my Hubsplit  account from my social-networking account?

To unlink a social account, log in to the site, visit your account page, and click the “Unlink My Account” or “Delete” link next to the social account you would like to unlink.

If you only registered with a social-networking site, you cannot convert that account to an unlinked Hubsplit  account, but you can unlink from that social-networking site and connect to another social-networking site, or you can delete your Hubsplit  account and create a new one not linked to any social-networking sites.

Can I delete my Hubsplit  account?

Yes, you can delete your Hubsplit  account at any time.

To delete your account, log in to the site, visit your account page, and click the “Settings” button toward the bottom of the page.

Once you delete your account, all your personal information stored in your account and profile pages will be removed. However, that data may remain in our system, such as in backups of our website data. Any reviews or comments you posted will remain on the site, but the author name will switch to “Anonymous,” so your name will no longer be connected with your content. If you would like to delete your posted reviews or comments, log in to your account, view the review or comment, and click the “Delete” link. If you would like to delete your posted reviews and comments and delete your account, you should delete your reviews and comments first and then close your account.
